Will Chris Long Be the Pick?

An issue that has gone largely unnoticed the past month thanks to recruiting and the Shaq trade is the pending #1 overall selection by the Miami Dolphins in April's NFL Draft.

My position since we clinched the pick in late December was that we need to trade it away. Even if you don't get a premium offer, take something thats remotely fair. Call Cincinnati and offer them the pick for Chad and their 1st. Figure out a way to make the Cowboys trade work. Do something.

To me, picking a player is too huge a financial risk for a team as bad as the Dolphins. However, it seems unlikely we can find a trading partner because of that risk, so the team has been evaluating its options. I heard a few weeks ago Chris Long was the favorite because he fits into Parcells' system.

Now, PFT reports that Adam Scheftner of NFL Network has been told that Long is early frontrunner to be the #1 overall selection.

I'm not thrilled about this report, but it's pretty accurate to say Chris is the least likely bust out of the major players in the draft. We are a bit unfortunate in that there is no absolute monster prospect outside of Darren McFadden, who plays a position we don't have a need for. Still, the draft is over 2 months away, so a lot can change before we have to make the pick.
