It's Never Too Early

Signing Day has come and gone and the Hurricanes have made their mark on the recruiting world. A consensus top 5 class is ready to enroll in Coral Gables, and for once, things are looking up for this team. Combined with last year's class, there's more than a 50% turnover from that awful team that barely won the MPC Computers Bowl.

However, it's not to early to start talking C/O 2009. The Hurricanes are looking at a 7-9 win season next year, so for now our title hopes have to lie with those still in high school. As I mentioned in today's YiM post, there are rumblings of 4 silent commits to the 2009 class already.

I don't know much about 09 recruits yet, but there are a handful of names you all should know about. First off is Arthur Brown's younger brother, Bryce. A 5 star RB, he has all-world talent that some say easily surpasses that of his brother. That's scary. It's been said he is all but a lock to be a package deal with Arthur, but many things can change in the next 360+ days.

Next is Cane lock Lamar Miller. Also a 4/5 star back, he features blazing 4.3 speed and badly wants to be part of the Cane resurgence. If the rumor about the silents were true, I wouldn't be surprised if both of these backs were on that short list. It's because of them that losing Jamie Harper to Clemson wasn't that big a deal. Not to mention that we still have a very healthy stable of young backs.

Additionally, there is South Florida QB Eugene Smith. The Miramar product is a 4 star talent and has the potential to have his stock skyrocket. If things remain unchanged, he is also pretty much a Cane lock. Adding him for 2009 would be a crucial pickup because this team desperately needs depth at the QB position in case of injury or busts.

Finally, the other potential silent is Cliff Harris, a star CB in California. His short list is basically between us and USC, but I've read that we have the inside track. Getting him would ease the pain of losing PJ and TJ to national powers LSU and USC.

There are definitely other guys who we've already contacted, and I guarantee you that this recent class has opened the eyes of every 16-17 year old football player in the country. Kids will want to play for Miami again, especially if Randy Shannon can turn things around and take this team to a 9 win season.
