Caught updates of the MNW-Deerfield Beach playoff game tonight, primarily because the bulk of our stud class ready to sign in February hails from Northwestern. In case anyone isn't into recruiting, despite Miami's abysmal 5-7 record, Randy Shannon has pieced together one of the better classes in the country, a class that shows enough promise to possibly be the best ever. This of course is going by the star system, which ranks players as 1-5 star quality, and really shouldn't be trusted to measure how good a class is. Ed Reed only had two scholarship offers after all.
Nonetheless, I have to say despite our disappointing season, there seems to be some ray of hope coming from the incoming 30+ freshmen we can expect to sign with the team this January or February. Combine that with the seniors leaving and we are looking at a huge turnover of this roster that badly needed an influx of new players. If even half of these guys (Jacory Harris, Marcus Forston, et al) turn out to be any good, expect a winning season next year and an ACC title in '09. The one thing I don't look forward to is the early game in Gainesville next year. The Gators will have caught us at a weak point in the cycle and as much as I hate them, I don't expect the game to be within single digits.
As long as this team is back up to par with the contenders by '09 and '10 (you have to have those upcoming Ohio State games in mind too), I'll be fine with whatever happens next season. I hope more people give Randy Shannon the benefit of the doubt and just be patient.
