Question Thread 02/28

A commenter brought up a good idea by suggesting that I should give the readers a forum to ask questions or discuss anything in particular. So if you guys would like, feel free to ask me something you've been wondering about and I'll try to track it down for you. Or if you want, suggest some topics you'd like to see covered on the blog. I'm open to suggestions and would like to have this blog be open-ended--- my opinion isn't the only one that counts.

I'll bump this post to the top at the end of the day for a week if there is interest in it.

Can you give us some possible scenarios for the Miami Heat in free agency this summer. Me and my friends throw around names like Mike Miller, Elton Brand, Antwan Jamison, and even Agent 0. Put it into perspective for us because I have a feeling some of us are talking mad crap...

Just wondering what kind of recruiting classes Butch was getting for our last championship years in 01 and 02.

Aldo,

How about revisiting some of past 'Cane football every so often. Times are (temporarily) lean right now.
A lot of the younger fans had a taste of one of the best teams ever in '00-'02. I loved the 80's (especially the non-championship season of '88). There's a lot 'stuff' there to share.

I'll try to write a post on a past team sometime later this week; it's a good idea.

As far as Butch's classes go, his were unique. Butch didn't land Urban Meyer classes that won recruiting titles, but he did land an endless slew of 1st round picks.

What Butch did was look for guys who wanted to play and had something to prove. Some of them were big time guys, like Vernon Carey. Ken Dorsey was pretty well regarded, though not a 5 star QB. Sean Taylor was a top player in Florida. DJ Williams was the #1 player in the country.

But he also got guys like Santana Moss, who came on a track scholarship and I think might have had an offer from like East Carolina at best. Ed Reed only had offers from Tulane and Miami. A bunch of our guys were nobodies that weren't offered by big schools.

So Butch really mixed it up a bit. He didn't go after all the superstud talents, mainly because he couldn't. But he did manage to get a few to commit, stole a couple of guys away (Portis played in Gainesville but they wanted him to play DB), and then sprinkled in guys that nobody else wanted.

Butch got Jeremy Shockey out of no where too. Butch was amazing man. But Randy pulling in all the top dade/broward prospects is also tremendous.

What's with espn saying where going to talk Ryan at the top pick? I thought we would be getting long or dorsey... I really don't think a QB is the best option at number 1 for us. What do you think Aldo?

Todd McShay is nuts. To have us taking Matt Ryan, who isn't even a 1st-round grade QB to many scouts, at #1 considering our needs, well that's ridiculous. There's no way that happens unless they find some crazy injury with Jake or Chris Long.

He also has no Canes going in the first. I don't know what to make of it all.

The Dolphins can pick a QB in Day 1, but it has to be either that 2nd 2nd round pick or the 3rd. Do not use either of your first two on a QB unless Brohm or Ryan falls out of the 1st round.
