Canes Stunned at Home by FAU

We should have seen this coming. Miami struggled against Clemson this past weekend and needed a dramatic Dave DiNatale walkoff HR in extra innings to finish off lowly FGCU last night. The mini-slide culminated in today's loss to the FAU Owls at Mark Light Stadium, 6-3.

The loss was a tough one, but it was well deserved. Miami fell in a hole early as starter John Housey allowed all 6 runs in 5 innings (4 earned) and the offense failed to rally the team. The Canes got a pair of hits from Jemile Weeks and got 3 from shortstop Ryan Jackson, but Jackson managed to leave 5 men on base despite batting 3-5 and an RBI.

When your team needs you, you gotta come through with the hit. It didn't look like the Canes could do that tonight. Credit has to be given to Owls pitcher Michael Obradovich, who threw a ridiculous 152 pitches in 8 innings of 1-run ball. A late mini-rally by the Canes didn't work against relief pitcher Glen Troyanowski.

Now expect the Canes to go into their series at Georgia Tech hungry and prepared. That #1 ranking was undeserved and maybe it got to their heads a bit. Who knows. FSU will likely take over the top spot assuming they don't lose either. The matchup against the Seminoles later this season will be a true test for Hurricanes baseball.
