The 21st ranked UM Basketball team fell behind Boston College early and never really had a shot in this one. They were down as many as 23 in the 2nd half before making a late run to pull it within 10. However, the Canes shot very poorly from the field and a comeback attempt was bound to fall short.
Again, the reason why they lost was because they didn't play their usual balanced offensive attack. They were even on the boards and didn't really allow too many 3s like they did against Winthrop. Instead, they just chucked foolish shots, particularly in that comeback attempt.
Jack McClinton had a 2nd straight awful game. Down the stretch Miami might have had a shot to get within striking distance but he kept launching desperation shots that either got blocked or missed badly. He shot 6 for 25, contributing to the total 30% shooting by the entire team. In comparison, BC shot 50% from the field.
The biggest problem was the lack of an inside presence against the Eagles. Collins, Hicks, King and Graham combined for 7/21 shooting. Definitely a disappointing performance by the Canes. I'm not sure if it's representative of their talent being outclassed, or if it was just a bad night on the road against a good team. The only way to find out is to see how they respond against NC State and UNC. This team HAS to beat the Wolfpack, unless it plans on upsetting a major team.
