The Miami Hurricanes recovered from their poor start yesterday vs Georgia Tech and ended up with a solid victory over their first ACC opponent of the season.
The game was very much in question for most of the matchup. The Canes uncharacteristically struggled from the 3 point line, a stat they've been highly ranked in for a while now. Jack McClinton had an awful start to the game as well.
However, a late first half run spilled over into a solid 2nd half and the Canes came away with the victory. Hopefully this will earn them a little bit of respect in the polls and the media. They dropped like a rock after the Winthrop loss and many people were saying they were last year's Clemson (started off really hot and then failed to win 20 games or make the tourney).
One thing that surprised me was the lack of assists. Only 10 by the team yesterday. I find it odd considering the Canes are balanced team without any real superstars. GT was even worse with only 9.
The hope here is that the victory, while not the prettiest of wins, will still give the players confidence they can compete in the ACC. With upcoming games against BC and NC State, they have plenty of chances to prove their worth in a tough basketball conference. They need every ounce of that confidence if they hope to make an impact against UNC or Duke this season.
